Actually 716,210 Korean tourist traveled abord by April this year, 9.2% more than same periods of last year.
The sharp increase in doutbound travel this sprimg is surprising in view of the country's business recession and government's recent reform drive to press overspending above mentioned.

As for the share, 36% of outbound travellers indicated overseaa travel for the purpose of sight-seeing increasing from 35% in '91and 35.4% in '92, respectively.
This increase is avery significant sign of the will of the Korean people and irresistably of travelling abrdad.

As of last April, Australia and New Zeanland recorded a drastic increase to nearly 100% to 28,493.
But Japan has seen a decrease over 1.7% the previous year to 290,400 and occupied 41.1% of total outbound market share, showing the worst decreasing rate expect Taiwan which broken foreign relations wlth Korea last year in the world.

The setback of Japanese market is largely attributed to the recent strong yen and the decreasing of the number of inspector group and FIT travelers to Japan, leveling off 2.3% and 0.4% respectovely.
However, one new bright spot is that per capita spending rate of Korean tourist has gradually dropped.

Accoding to the statistics, Korean tourist spent an average of US$1,867 per person in 1988, incresed by 35.4% over the previous year.
But in 1989 when the restrictions first lifted, they spent over US$2,000 reaching more than one million Korean a year go abroad.

That meant that there were no knowledgeable and experience for overseas spending in that year, complete liberalzation of overseas trip.
But the spending of per person drastically dropped by 8.7% to US$ 1,857 over last year and 5.5% to US$ 2,028 in '90
Industry source believe that frugality in overseas trip will eventually be setrled, providing the fact that per capita spending in April this year decresed by 9.9% over same periods of previous year to US$ 1,674."
